14 Fatalities Due Floods and Landslides in Luwu Regency

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The death toll from floods and landslides in Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi has surged to 14, up from the previous 7, as reported by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) on Saturday (4/5/2024).

"As of Saturday, at 6 am, 1,385 households are affected. Hundreds of residents have sought refuge in several mosques and relatives' homes," said Abdul Muhari, the Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center for Disaster Management at BNPB.

Thirteen districts in Luwu Regency bear the brunt of the floods, including Suli, Latimojong, West Suli, South Ponrang, Ponrang, and Bupon. Additionally, Larompong, South Larompong, Bajo, West Bajo, Kamanre, Belopa, and North Belopa districts are affected.

"Water levels are observed to be 1-3 meters high," Abdul added.

The floods affected 1,867 houses, including 103 that have suffered severe damage, and 42 have been washed away.

Four road sections, one bridge, and 14 motorcycles were also affected. In addition, the floods have submerged rice fields and plantations

Coordination continues between the Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Luwu regency , BPBD in South Sulawesi, and joint teams for assessments, evacuations, and ongoing monitoring of the flood's impact.
