inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi says the air transportation infrastructure development has been improving significantly for the past ten years.
Minister Budi highlights that it is vital to improve connectivity, accessibility, and mobility of the public, while pushing economic growth in regions that were previously unreachable. According to him, throughout the tenure of President Jokowi, Indonesia has expanded its connectivity by building 27 new airports in various regions, including those in remote and border areas.
Other than building new airports, for the past decade the rehabilitation and development of 64 airports have been completed. Several enhancements have also been taken such as extending the runway, expanding the terminal building, and rehabilitating a number of other facilities.
Another vital program of the Transportation Ministry is the implementation of pioneering air transportation to support connectivity and reduce price disparities in community needs in the remote and border areas. Currently, there are 41 air bridge routes and 220 pioneer air transport routes spread throughout Indonesia.
Minister Budi says rehabilitation and development of airports is important to improve service quality standard and flight safety, while the provision of air bridges is very important to improve accessibility in the remote and border areas.
