inp.polri.go.id - Mataram. The Search and Rescue (SAR) team of the West Nusa Tenggara Mobile Brigade Unit and public is working hand-in-hand to evacuate the capsized ship in Ampenan Beach, Bintaro Village, Mataram City, on Sunday (12/29/2024).

Mobile Brigade Unit Commander in West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Komaruz Zaman explains that the incident occurred at 10.30 local time. At that time, the ship with five passengers was about to sail to Sintung Beach.

But in the middle of the journey, the boat's propeller got caught in a sack, causing the boat to tilt. The big waves that came then hit the boat, causing it to capsize and be swept away by the current to the Bintaro area.

"The public who witnessed this incident immediately reported it to us and we immediately deployed our personnel equipped with SAR equipment to the scene," explained Komaruz Zaman.

Following the rescue, Komaruz confirmed that the five fishermen who were on the boat were rescued safely. In this rescue effort, the SAR team and the local community worked together to save the fishermen and lift the capsized boat.

"The evacuation process carried out by personnel together with local residents lasted for approximately one hour. We are lucky that we managed to evacuate all passengers and fishing boat to the beach," said Komaruz.

Following this incident authorities will coordinate with local governments to increase supervision and education for coastal communities to avoid similar incidents in the future.
