Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued forecasts indicating a potential risk of forest and land fires in three provinces, namely South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and East Nusa Tenggara provinces, on Tuesday (10/10/23). The BMKG emphasizes the significance of recognizing the potential for forest and land fires that could lead to haze. Additionally, the agency urges the public to abstain from any form of land burning. Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati underscored the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon, including shifts in precipitation patterns, elevated air temperatures, and an increase in hotspots within fire-prone areas. She anticipated that El Niño is projected to persist until early 2024, but its impact will diminish as the rainy season commences. The conclusion of the dry season is expected towards the latter part of October, marking the onset of the transition to the rainy season in November 2023. "During the rainy season, the impact of El Niño will be less pronounced compared to the present conditions. We anticipate the prolonged dry season to conclude in October and the transition to commence in November," she said. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
