inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency prioritized handling six provinces plagued with wildfires.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, confirmed that the operation was still ongoing.

“We informed you that wildfire handling in six prioritized provinces remains active until November 2024. The six provinces are Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Kalimantan,” states Abdul on Tuesday (8/13/2024).

The reaffirmation was conveyed as the phase of La Nina has begun. Abdul explains that in general La Nina begins in August 2024, as predicted.

During La Nina, there will be an increase of 20 to 40 percent of higher potentials of rains. Despite the circumstances, Abdul states that his party will continue to handle the wildfires in the six prioritized provinces.

“We assure that the aid and handling of wildfires to the six provinces will continue. However, there will be one province where hot spots are still detected due to uneven rain," said Abdul.

The stance of BNPB is supported by the weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). BMKG analysis states that the rain due to La Nina has not been evenly distributed.

“At least we will do it until the weather condition finally returns to normal, although we have prioritized that we will continue the operation until November,” says Abdul.
