Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) documented a total of 1.327 disasters during the first quarter of 2023, relying on the verification and validation of disaster data conducted by the Regional Agency for Disaster Management (BPBD).

"The previously reported figure of 763 disaster incidents has been verified and validated to be 1.327 incidents," said Abdul Muhari, Acting Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center for Disasters of BNPB, on Monday (3/7/23).

Based on the verified and validated data, during the period from January to March 2023, there were 124 casualties due to disasters, including deaths and missing persons, while the total number of individuals affected by disasters reached 2.440.751. Initially, the recorded number of houses damaged by disasters was 9.023 units, but upon verification and validation, the total increased to 17.331 units.

"The results are based on the coordination between BNPB and BPBD from several provinces that have conducted data verification and validation until May 31, 2023," he said.

The provinces that have submitted verified and validated disaster incident data include West Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, Riau Islands, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, East Java, Banten, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

However, he said that there are still several provinces that have not submitted data as of that date, leaving room for potential changes in the disaster incident data and its impacts.

"Regions that have not submitted the recapitulation of disaster incident and impact data are urged to report regularly every three months to BNPB. This measure aims to synchronize disaster data between the central and regional levels and promote accountability for disaster management in Indonesia," he concluded.
