inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Culture is working to equalize the number of cinema screens across all regions, increasing the availability of cinema screens in the regions so that film viewing is not only concentrated in big cities.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that the number of cinema screens in Indonesia is relatively small compared to the population, and is still concentrated in urban areas, especially on the island of Java.
"There needs to be a solution so that in broadcasting Indonesian films there is a place and they can be easily accessed by the public," said the Minister of Culture, on Monday (11/4/2024).
Based on data from the Indonesian Film Agency, in February 2024 there were 517 cinema locations with a total of 2,145 in 115 districts and cities in Indonesia, which according to data from the Central Statistics Agency has 349 districts and 91 cities.
"Then also the number of our viewers, although this year we may be able to break the record, previously said to be 66 million, we could have possibly reached above 70 million by the end of the year," added the Minister Fadli Zon.
Fadli Zon said that the government will seek solutions to support the development of a sustainable film industry and increase the number of cinema screens.
He also noted the need to determine priorities in efforts to support the development of the film industry, whether to prioritize the development of supporting infrastructure or grow the market.
In addition to mapping the needs of cinema screens in the regions, according to him, the government will collaborate with the private sector to provide educational and entertainment facilities for the community.
