Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Prof. Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, better known as Eddy Hiariej, as a suspect in an alleged bribery case. KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata confirmed on Thursday (9/10/2023) that the deputy minister had been named as a suspect two weeks earlier. He said that four people, three recipients and one giver, were involved in the corruption investigation. The case came to light following a report by Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), which alleged that Eddy Hiariej had received payoffs totalling Rp7 billion, antaranews.com reported. The report by IPW chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso implicated Eddy's personal assistant, Yogi Ari Rukmana, and lawyer Yosie Andika Mulyadi in receiving the alleged gratification. These funds were allegedly related to advising and facilitating the approval of a company's legal entity. In response, Eddy Hiariej's legal representative, Ricky Herbert Parulian Sitohang, denied the allegations. He claimed that the funds received by Yosie were payment for legal services rendered and that Eddy had no knowledge or involvement in these financial transactions. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
