Inp.polri.go.id - Asmat. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the development of Ewer Airport in Agats District, Asmat Regency, South Papua Province on Thursday (6/7/23). The President emphasized that the airport development aims to meet the transportation needs of the local community in Asmat Regency.

"Connectivity and linkages between regions, including regencies, provinces, or islands, are crucial. They will facilitate the movement of people and goods," President Jokowi stated.

He further explained that the airport development will reduce regional isolation and expedite logistics delivery. Flights from Timika will operate twice a week, flights from Kamur four times a week, and flights from Merauke four times a week will also commence at the airport.

Additionally, President Jokowi highlighted that the availability of flights to Asmat Regency will create tourism opportunities and enhance the local economy. He expressed hopes for the continuous growth and progress of Asmat Regency with the completion of the airport development.

"We aspire to see improvements and sustained growth in the economy of Asmat Regency, South Papua," he said.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi reported that the passenger terminal of Ewer Airport features minimalist architecture adorned with Asmat cultural elements. He emphasized that the development of transportation infrastructure in Asmat Regency reflects the government's commitment to equitable development throughout Indonesia, particularly in South Papua.

"For instance, the installation of miniature Asmat tribe canoes, which symbolize not only transportation but also the philosophy of life and death for the Asmat tribe," said the Minister.
