Indonesian Economic Growth is Better than the World’s: Jokowi Says

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo says that the economic growth of Indonesia can be higher than the average global economic growth.

“Our economic growth are well maintained to be around five percent, higher than the average global economic growth, which sits at 3.4 percent,” says Jokowi during his APBN Bill for Fiscal Year 2025 and Financial Note during the Indonesian House of Representatives Plenary Session on Friday (8/16/2024).

Jokowi remarks as a proud and solid country, Indonesia has faced many challenges for the past 10 years. From the Covid-19 pandemic, global geopolitical turmoil, trade wars and various threats of crisis, as well as climate change which is causing many disasters.

“Although we have weathered many challenges and uncertainties, we are grateful that our politics and economics remains stable, even growing,” says Jokowi.

On the other hand, Jokowi also notes that the debt ratio of Indonesia is among the lowest within the G20 and ASEAN states.

Furthermore, the Indonesian export value has been going up to be more than 70 percent, reaching 259 billion USD in 2023. The current account balance continues to gradually strengthen and the trade balance has always recorded a surplus for the last 51 months.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data, exports in June 2024 reached 20.84 billion US dollars, supported by the processing or manufacturing industry which contributed 16.06 billion USD to the country's total sales in the June period.
