Brigadier General Mukti Juharsa, the Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency’s Director of Narcotics Crime, announced plans to order raids on nightclubs to prevent the distribution of poppers, a stimulant drug popular among the  Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community.

"We will conduct raids everywhere. I will issue an order for my team to target these substances if found. We are concerned they might be used in nightclubs to stimulate people," he said on Thursday (25/7/2024)..

Chief Mukti also revealed the pricing details for poppers sold by the suspects, identified RCL, MS, and P, who are arrested in the case. 

These stimulants, which are inhaled, are imported from China and have been banned in Indonesia by the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) since 2021 due to the presence of isobutyl nitrite, he said.

"The cost of poppers is about Rp 80,000 when bought in China and sold for Rp 120,000 in Jakarta," he explained.
