Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has been addressing permit constraints in establishing overseas polling stations for the 2024 General Elections, an official said on Wednesday (29/11/2023).
Head of the KPU's data and information division Betty Epsilon Idroos, highlighted challenges in countries like China, which restricts the construction of polling stations beyond their borders, including places like Hong Kong and Macau, antaranews.com reported.
"Similar constraints are observed in the Czech Republic. We acknowledge these challenges and plan to discuss potential solutions in a plenary meeting," she said, saying that the KPU will utilize overseas polling stations, mobile ballot boxes or postal voting to address such issues.
While the decision is final, external conditions beyond control may hinder the process due to varying jurisdiction policies in each country, particularly for countries like the Czech Republic, which does not permit mobile ballot boxes, she added.
The KPU has established polling stations in 128 representative countries, encompassing 3,059 PPLNs, mobile ballot boxes, and post outlets. The total number of overseas Indonesian voters stands at 1,750,474.
