Inp.polri.go.id - Solok.  A landslide at a mining site in Nagari Sungai Abu, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, has claimed 15 lives, with 25 others still trapped under the debris.

Chief of the Solok Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Irwan Efendi, confirmed on Friday (27/9/2024) the fatalities on Friday, adding that 11 bodies have been recovered so far, while four remain buried. Three workers sustained injuries.

"Twenty-five people are still trapped," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..

Rescue operations were delayed due to the remote location, which requires a four-hour journey over difficult terrain. BPBD Solok has deployed teams and coordinated with local authorities, but poor access has made it challenging to get accurate updates.

The landslide occurred on Thursday afternoon, but collecting precise data has been difficult due to the isolated area.

The type of mining operation at the site has not yet been confirmed.

As of now, a joint search and rescue team continued attempts to evacuate the remaining victims.
