Medan Court Sentences Trio to Death for Drug Trafficking from Malaysia

Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The Medan District Court handed down on Wednesday (8/5/2024) death sentences three men for trafficking 52.5 kilograms of sabu-sabu and 323,822 ecstasy pills. 

Defendants Al Riza, Hanisah, and Maimun were found guilty to act as the courier of the drugs from Malaysia to Medan in North Sumatera and Palembang in SOuth Sumatera as its final destination.

Other three defendants, identified as Hamzah, Nasrullah, and Mustafa,  received life imprisonment in the same case, according to antaranews.com.

Chief Judge Abdul Hadi Nasution found all six guilty of violating narcotics laws, conspiring to traffic class one narcotics exceeding five grams. He cited their failure to support anti-narcotics efforts and the national network as aggravating factors. 

Prosecutor Rizkie Andriani Harahap's indictment detailed the defendants' involvement in drug transactions from Malaysia to Medan and Palembang. 

Following investigations initiated by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) after discovering the drug circulation, arrests were made, leading to the seizure of evidence and ongoing efforts to arrest other suspects.
