Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Ibu in Halmahera Barat, North Maluku, erupted five times on Sunday night (10/11/2024).
According to the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG), the eruptions began at 9.33 pm local time, with an ash plume reaching 1,000 meters above the summit. The eruptions continued through the night, with ash plumes reported at various heights.
At 9.41 pm, the ash plume rose to 800 meters. At 9.57 pm, the plume reached 500 meters. Another eruption occurred at 10.58 pm with a plume of 800 meters, followed by the final eruption of the night at 11.28 pm, also with an ash plume of 800 meters, according to antaranews.com.
The largest eruption recorded a seismic amplitude of 28 mm, lasting 71 seconds.
PVMBG has advised residents and tourists to stay at least 4 km away from the volcano, with a 5 km radius extending northward. In the event of an ashfall, people are urged to wear masks and goggles.
Local authorities have been urged to stay in close contact with PVMBG for updates and to keep the public informed of any developments.
