Inp.polri.go.id - Mankowari. The Manokwari City Sub-regional Police in West Papua investigated the shooting of Yan Christian Warinussy, the Director of the Legal Aid Research, Study, and Development Institute (LP3BH) Manokwari.
The attack occurred at around 3.45 pm local time on Wednesday (17/7/2024) as Warinussy was leaving a Himbara bank in Sanggeng, Manokwari.
Senior Inspector Wisnu Prasetyo said that authorities are gathering evidence to identify the shooter and determine the motive behind the attack.
"We are collecting statements from witnesses at the scene," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
However, surveillance footage from the bank was unavailable due to a malfunctioning camera.
Investigators are now seeking CCTV footage from nearby locations and interviewing witnesses, including Warinussy's family, who reported seeing a suspicious vehicle following him.
Warinussy was immediately taken to the West Papua Regional Hospital, where a bullet was removed from his left chest. The projectile analysis indicates the use of an air rifle.
Amnesty International's Director Usman Hamid condemned the shooting, calling it an act of terror against Warinussy and his human rights advocacy in Papua. Amnesty urged local authorities to arrest the offenders and uncover the motive behind the attack.
