inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. Riau Police arrested five suspected members of international drug trafficking network and confiscated 276 kg of methamphetamine in an undercover operation late last month, Chief of Riau Police Police Inspector General Muhammad Iqbal announced on Wednesday (1/2/23).
One of the suspects was shot to death while resisting the police capture.
"On January 29, 2023 Ditresnarkoba Riau Police has once again showed its extraordinary performance. (The police) has consistently uncovered drugs trafficking cases, using various techniques such as control delivery, undercover drug purchase, and others," the Chief explained during a press conference at the Riau Police Headquarters, referring to the Riau Police Directorate of Drugs Enforcement.
The general added that the operation was started with a tip off about a transaction of a large number of narcotics. The information was received by the Preliminary and Full Investigation Unit at the Riau Police Directorate of Drugs Enforcement.
"At 5 pm in a Pekanbaru City area, the operation was successfully done. One of the five suspects died because he resisted the capture and endangered our officers. (He) had been given warning shots but instead directed his vehicle towards our officers several times. It was a form of an instant threat and we had stop it. Otherwise, he would have endangered the lives of our officers or members of the community. Therefore, we had to stop it, " he said.
He encouraged members society to anticipate and support the elimination of drugs trafficking in the city of Pekanbaru.
