inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Communication and Digital of the Republic of Indonesia, Meutya Viada Hafid emphasized that the digitalization of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) must be accompanied by the strengthening of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). This is so that the creative potential of the locals can develop more optimally.

"This is the right time to show the strength of our local work. IPR protection is not only about legality, but also how we appreciate the creativity of our people. I want to see more Indonesian MSME products go global with pride," she calls on Tuesday (3/4/2025).

The digitalization of MSMEs continues to be the government's main focus to increase the competitiveness of local business actors. Meutya revealed that 50 percent of MSMEs have successfully penetrated the electronic commerce (e-commerce) platform, recording a turnover growth of more than 88 percent.

However, opportunities are still wide open for more MSMEs to utilize digital technology.

"If the participation of digital MSMEs can increase to 70 percent, the impact on the national economy will be extraordinary. We, from the ministry, are ready to fully support the various training and digitalization programs," he said.

Meanwhile, the President's Special Envoy for MSMEs, Creative Economy and Digital, Ahmad Ridha Sabana, said that 80 percent of IPR in the creative economy sector is currently registered by foreign parties.

Many craftsmen in Bali and Java experience obstacles in marketing their products because their copyrights have been registered by external entities.

"This is a challenge that we must face together. We want all MSME actors to have strong IPR protection so that they can focus on working and developing," he concluded.
