Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Head of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Senior Superintendent Faizal Rahmadani, confirmed that two students who were detained shortly after a shootout at Kali Brasa, Dekai, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, have now been released.
"Yes, both have been released as they were not proven to be affiliated with KKB ," he said on Monday (26/2/2024), referring to the armed criminal group.
Although they have been released, Chief Faizal added, the authorities will re-investigate if there is any new evidence regarding the ties of these two students with the KKB, antaranews.com reported.
The two students, identified as MH and BG, were detained by authorities shortly after the shootout between the KKB and security forces at Kali Brasa, Dekai, Yahukimo Regency, on 22 February 2024.
During the shootout, the security team was able to kill Otniel Giban alias Bolong Giban, who was a member of the Ndugama KKB and active in the Wosak Battalion led by Yotam Bugiangge.
"Otniel Giban was involved in a series of shootings and killings in Dekai, Yahukimo Regency, and also in Kenyam, Nduga Regency," Chief Faizal said..
Earlier on 17 February 2024,, the KKB shot a descending Wings Air aircraft at Nop Goliat Dekai Airport, Yahukimo Regency.
