Unrest Halts Flights to Mulia Puncak Jaya

Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. - Due to the unrest in Mulia, Puncak Jaya regency, Central Papua, all flights to the area have been temporarily suspended, confirmed Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Kuswara on Thursday (18/7/2024).

"The civil flights to Mulia are suspended due to the ongoing unrest," Kuswara said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He said that there is no set date for when flights will resume. 

"We hope the situation stabilizes soon, allowing flights to return to normal and residents to resume their activities," Kuswara added.

Currently, the Puncak Jaya Police have received reinforcements from Papua Reginal Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) and the Damai Cartenz Task Force. 

The unrest began following the deaths of three residents, who were shot by security forces on Tuesday night. The victims were identified as SW (33), YW (41), and DW (36). Four others were injured, and one, Abdulah Jaelani (30), was killed by a sharp object.

The injured include Major Novald Dermawan, hit by a stone, Arief (45), struck by an arrow, Safrudin (44), hit by a stone, and Surati, or also known as Bude Nina, (53), injured by a sharp object.
