Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police (INP) indicates alleged misuse of funds derived from drug trafficking for the 2024 Elections. This information was obtained from several arrests of regional legislators.

When asked for confirmation on Wednesday (24/5/23), Police Senior Superintendent Jayadi, the Deputy Director of Narcotics Crimes of Criminal Investigation Agency, explained that the arrest in multiple regions have raised suspicions.

"Based on the arrests carried out by our personnel against legislators in several regions, it is suspected that funds from the illicit drug trade will be used for the electoral contest in 2024," he said.

He elaborated further on the proactive measures being taken by their team in collaboration with the General Election Supervisory Agency. "Yes, that's correct. During this coordination meeting, we are issuing a warning to our personnel to implement preventive measures," he affirmed.

On the other hand, the Chairperson of General Election Supervisory Agency Rahmat Bagja underscored that the institution holds the authority to issue recommendations to the General Election Commission in cases where candidates are suspected to be involved in drug misuse or related activities. Alongside their coordination efforts with the Criminal Investigation Agency, he mentioned that General Election Supervisory also maintains close surveillance in collaboration with the National Narcotics Agency.

"Sometimes, the recommendations to the General Election Commission are not fully followed up," he said.
