Inp.polri.go.id - Gianyar.  The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has uncovered a clandestine drug lab in Gianyar, Bali, controlled by a foreign national. The lab, located on Desa Keliki Kawan Street in Payangan, was found to be producing a new type of narcotic, Dimethyltryptamine (DMT).

BNN Deputy for Eradication Inspector General I Wayan Sugiri said on Tuesday (23/7/2024) that three Filipinos, identified as DAS (28),  his mother PMS and sister DOS, were arrested in relation to the case.

DAS has been charged, while PMS and DOS remain witnesses. A Jordanian national, identified as AMI, who is also involved, is currently being sought by authorities.

The lab was discovered on 18 July 2024, after a joint investigation team searched a villa suspected of housing illegal drug operations. Inside a tent on the villa's grounds, officers found chemicals and lab equipment. A clear liquid found in the villa's refrigerator tested positive for DMT, according to antaranews.com.

Further investigation led to suspect AMI's residence in Raya Bunutan, Kedewatan, Ubud, but the suspect was not present. The search yielded more DMT chemicals and equipment.

Both suspect DAS and AMI face severe charges under Narcotics Law No. 35/2009, with penalties including death or life imprisonment.
