Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products, including cigarettes, on a per-stick basis, with exceptions for cigars and electronic cigarettes.
The specific rule, outlined in Article 434 (1) (c) of the regulation, aims to curb tobacco use, according to antaranews.com.
The regulation also bans the sale of tobacco products and e-cigarettes through self-service machines, to individuals under 21, and pregnant women. It restricts their placement near schools, playgrounds, and requires online sales to include age verification.
Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin welcomed the regulation on Tuesday (30/7/2024) as part of a broader health system reform. The new regulation replaces 26 previous regulations and five presidential decrees. It was enacted on 26 July 2024, with the aim of strengthening Indonesia's health architecture.
