Inp.polri.go.id - Papua. The police have once again issued an appeal to the community residing in Nabire Regency and its surrounding areas, urging them to refrain from engaging in any actions that may pose harm to themselves or others. This appeal comes in light of an ongoing conflict between residents that has persisted over the past few days.

In a written statement on Thursday, June 8, 2023, Police Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, the Head of Public Relations (PR) Division of the Papua Regional Police, highlighted that, "The local government, assisted by security forces, has taken swift measures to prevent escalation by prioritizing customary and religious norms."

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of individuals residing outside of Central Papua Province maintaining a calm demeanor and refraining from sharing inflammatory videos that depict the fires. Disseminating such content carries the potential to ignite anger among local residents and may result in adverse consequences. He reassured the public that the police, in collaboration with the local government and relevant stakeholders, are actively and diligently addressing the multifaceted issues stemming from the intercommunity conflict in Nabire Regency, Central Papua.

He stated that mediations have been initiated by the Chief of Nabire Sub-Regional Police, Nabire Regent, and several other local authorities who are involved in the conflict.

"These mediations are aimed at fostering a resolution and seeking common ground between the conflicting groups, thus preventing any further loss of life and material damage to the residents," he concluded.
