Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Military (TNI)'s Military Police Command is investigating the death of journalist Rico Sempurna Pasaribu, who was killed along with three family members in a fire in Karo, North Sumatra. 

TNI Military Police Commander Major General Yusri Nuryanto confirmed on Tuesday (30/7/2024) that the case is being handled by the Bukit Barisan Military Command’s Military Police.

Pasaribu's family suspects foul play, involving a soldier identified as First Corporal HB. TNI Chief of Staff Liutenant General Bambang Ismawan asserted that legal action will be taken if any TNI members are found guilty in the case.

Pasaribu, who reportedly exposed an online gambling network linked to First Corporal HB, was killed on 27 June 2024 as their house was on fire. The North Sumatra Regional Police have conducted a legal reconstruction with 57 scenes and are examining 28 witnesses, having arrested three suspects.

The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has been monitoring the case to ensure a thorough investigation by the police and military.
