On National Children Day, Govt. Gives 1,138 Remission to Juvenile Inmates

inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. In celebrating the National Children Day, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights give remission to 1,138 juvenile inmates across Indonesia

Conveyed by Minister Yasonna H Laoly, reducing the sentence period is a form of reward given by the state to the juvenile prisoners.

“This shows that they are complying with the rules and follow the coaching program really well. This remission hopefully could motivate these children to continue in giving their best,” said Minister Yasonna on Tuesday (7/23/2024).

Regarding the remission given to the juvenile inmates, it varies, from one month to six months. Moreover, there are 33 of them who are sentenced free, thanks to the remission.

The Regional Office of West Java Law and Human Rights Ministry records there are 111 juveniles receiving the remission. Then, in South Sumatra, 97 juveniles received the remission, while 76 juveniles received remission in North Sumatra.

Correctional data from the Directorate General of Corrections noted that as of July 12th, 2024, the number of children and foster children was 2,153 people. Consisting of 575 children and 1,578 assisted children who are in juvenile prisons, prisons and state detention centers.

With the remission given to 1,138 juveniles, the country saves food costs for children and assisted children amounting to IDR 826,710,000. The remission provided is also in accordance with a number of administrative and substantive requirements.
